Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the huge variety & variation of life that surrounds us, from the tiniest flower on your lawn to the biggest whales in the sea

This year we are applying for our 5th green school flag. This year's theme is Biodiversity. The pupils have been working on the theme since last year and have completed their Biodiversity Awareness Survey and have completed and displayed a Habitat map of the school grounds thanks to 3rd and 4th class.

Over the years we have developed the grounds with environmental awareness in mind and have recreated a bog garden in the front of the school as well as a vegetable patch, a fruit garden and a sensory garden. We also with the help of the parents planted over sixty native trees around the perimeter fence in recent years. While at this time of year the garden is somewhat battered by the elements the Infant and 1st class were able to locate some wonderful examples of the variety of life in our school garden as Spring arrived. We have also been experimenting with growing plants from seeds, nuts, bulbs, tubers and cuttings.
We planted a potato cut in four in this pot in October.

The Hyacinth bulbs grew slowly but we got there in the end
