Newsletter  - September 2018

Welcome back to all our pupils and to all our new families. We hope you all have a very happy and enjoyable time this year in school.

On behave of the Parents Association and we would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who supported our Country Dance during the summer. It was a huge success and raised over €1500 for the school!

 Important dates for your diary

Mini Sevens Competition
The 5th and 6th classes hope to take part in mini sevens next week. Tuesday 25th Sept (boys)  and Wednesday 26th Sept (girls).  Good luck to both the boys and girls teams.

Rugby Initiative
Colm McWeeney from Connacht Rugby and Carrick on Shannon RFC will begin a rugby initiative in schools. He’s coming to Fatima NS on Tuesday 26th September for 4 weeks.

Cash For Clobber
We hope to have a clothes collection at the end of October. Please leave any used clean clothes in the shed close to the time.

Instrumental Music resumes
Padraig Lynch will resume tin whistle lessons on Friday 28th September for a 10  week period from 1st up to 6th class. Please ensure your child has a ‘D’ tin whistle and a folder for music sheets.
This year Padraig hopes to form a school band/group for ‘Scór’.
If your child plays any other instrument and is interested in taking part please send in instruments on the 28th September for auditions.

Free Lunch Scheme Programme
From 1st October we will begin a full three week trial of the free lunch scheme. Parents will receive log in details in order for you to choose your child’s lunch each week. Please find enclosed more details from ‘Carambola’ our chosen suppliers. If you have no internet or poor internet you can phone in orders. (See menu and phone number). Towards the end of the 3wks we will be asking you for your feedback.

Enrolment Ceremony
Our Confirmation classes and our First Holy Communion classes will take part in an enrolment ceremony in St. Mary’s church on Sunday 30th September 10am.

Futsal
3rd and 4th class will take part in a Futsal blitz in October. The date has yet to be confirmed.

Fire Safety Week
Mohill Fire Brigade will visit the school for Fire Safety Week on 2nd October.

Schools Heritage Programme
Martina Butler from Heritage Schools will facilitate a workshop on 8th November.

 The school closes for our Hallowe’en break on 26th October.  We will be having lots of Halloween fun and games with all the children dressing up in their Halloween finery on the day like we did two years ago. We will be having a Hallowe’en sharing party  (a NUT-FREE party please!). 

                Active School Flag  This year we are applying for the Department of Education and Skills Active School Flag , which is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physical educated and physically active school community.  We will be forming a committee of teachers children and parents in November and will be looking for help and support from all parents with an interest in sports activities.
