Remembering School days in 1916

Thank you to Terry Williams for  this wonderful set of black and white prints of our recent visit to the old school in Cloone to re-create what life was like in 1916. The children really put a huge effort into their outfits for the day. They forfeited all mod-cons and electricity for the day and  tried to re-live a day in the life of a school child one hundred years ago. We are very fortunate to still have the Roll Books from 1916 and the names of the 132 boys and girls who were on roll at the time of the Easter Rising

Interactive whiteboards replaced with slate boards and chalk for the day

Pen and ink replaced biros

Brown paper for lunch-box and milk from a bottle

No radiators as we got back to basics

We got a selection of the above photos printed in a Calendar which is on sale in aid of school funds and a beautiful memento of the event.

Thank you to Eugene Mitchell for allowing us access to the building for the day and preparing it for our visit.
